Privacy Policy

Overview

College Price Check is a brand of JB United LLC, a California limited liability company (“College Price Check,” “we,” “us”). This Privacy Policy applies to the College Price Check Platform (the “Platform”), including booking Appointments with Advisors. Capitalized terms not defined here, such as Members, Advisors, Guests, Listings, and Appointments, have the meaning given in our Terms of Service.

What we collect

• Booking information: Appointments are scheduled through a Calendly account that College Price Check manages. When you book, Calendly collects your name, email address, and any answers you give on the booking form. Both College Price Check and your Advisor receive this information.
• Advisor Listing information: if you publish a Listing, we collect the name, photos, bio, education, experience, topics, price, and scheduling details you provide, along with your contact email. Your Listing is public.
• Messages to us: if you email us or fill out a form, we keep what you send so we can respond.
• Payment information: payments for Appointments are collected by College Price Check on the Advisor’s behalf and processed by Stripe. Stripe handles your card details; College Price Check does not receive or store them. We keep records of your payments, refunds, and the Advisor’s payouts.
• Log data: when you visit the Platform, our servers automatically record standard log information, including your IP address, browser type and version, pages visited, time and date of visits, time spent on pages, and referring URL. We use this for analytics, security monitoring, and improving the Platform.

How we use it

We use the information we collect to operate the Platform: to publish Listings, schedule Appointments and send confirmations, respond to you, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our Terms, and understand how the Platform is used so we can improve it. We may occasionally email you about the Platform, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Sharing with Advisors

When you book an Appointment, your Advisor receives your booking details. During an Appointment, you may choose to share more, such as transcripts, application drafts, or parent tax and employment information for the FAFSA or CADAA. Share only what’s needed for the conversation. Our Terms of Service require Advisors to use your information only to provide the Appointment, to keep it confidential, and not to sell it. Advisors must never ask for your FSA ID, passwords, or full Social Security number.

Cookies and tracking technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Platform, remember preferences, and understand usage patterns. Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. You can set your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are set, but some features of the Platform may not work correctly if cookies are disabled. We do not use cookies to serve targeted advertising.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC (“Google”). Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information about how you use the Platform, including pages visited, session duration, and referring sources. This data is sent to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. We have enabled IP anonymization in Google Analytics. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required by law or where they process it on Google’s behalf.

You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by managing your browser’s cookie settings. To learn more about Google’s privacy practices, visit policies.google.com/privacy.

What we don’t do

We do not sell your data. We do not share your personal information with advertisers. We do not share your information with anyone other than your Advisor and the service providers listed below, except where required by law or to protect the safety of Members.

Third-party services

We use the following service providers, each of which has its own privacy policy:

• Calendly: Appointment scheduling
• Stripe: payment processing and Advisor payouts
• Resend: email delivery
• Supabase: secure database and file storage
• Google Analytics: usage analytics (see above)

Appointments may also take place on a video-call provider chosen by the Advisor, whose own privacy policy applies.

Data security

We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

Data retention

• Booking information: kept in our Calendly account for as long as needed to support Appointments and resolve disputes, or until you ask us to delete it. Your Advisor keeps their copy under their own practices.
• Advisor Listings: kept while the Listing is published, and deleted on request after it is unpublished
• Email address: kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it
• Log data: kept for up to 12 months for security and analytics
• Payment records: kept by College Price Check and Stripe as required by applicable law

Children’s privacy

The Platform is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information by mistake, we will promptly delete it. If you believe we hold data from a child under 13, contact us at hello@collegepricecheck.com. Guests between 13 and 17 should use the Platform only with a parent’s or guardian’s consent.

Do Not Track

Some browsers send “Do Not Track” (DNT) signals to websites. We do not currently change our data collection in response to DNT signals, because there is no widely accepted standard for how to respond to them. You can use the Google Analytics opt-out tool described above to limit analytics tracking.

Your rights

You can ask us to delete your email address or any data we hold about you at any time by contacting us. We will respond to verifiable requests within a reasonable time.

California residents: your rights under CCPA/CPRA

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

• Right to Know: request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected, used, or shared about you
• Right to Delete: request deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to certain legal exceptions
• Right to Correct: request correction of inaccurate personal information
• Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: we do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising
• Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: we do not use sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to operate the Platform
• Right to Non-Discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights

To submit a verifiable consumer request, email hello@collegepricecheck.com from the email address associated with your use of the Platform. We will respond within 45 days. You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf by providing written authorization.

Third-party links

The Platform may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. Please review the privacy policy of any third-party site you visit.

Changes to this policy

We will post any material changes to this Privacy Policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continuing to use the Platform after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy. For significant changes, we may also notify you by email.
