About College Price Check

College Price Check was created by college advisors who believe cost should never be the reason a student gives up on college. We built the independent college advisor program so more families can get expert, one-on-one help at a fair price.

About the role

As an independent college advisor, you hold one-on-one video appointments with students and parents across the United States, from middle school through college. You help them prepare for college, pay for it without overpaying, do well once they're there, and plan the career that comes after.

You run your own advising business, and College Price Check provides the platform. You set your price and your hours. We handle your profile, booking, secure payment collection, and payouts.

What you'll do

  • Hold 45-minute video appointments with students and families
  • Help families understand college costs, financial aid, and net price, so they can compare offers and avoid overpaying
  • Advise on college prep, choosing a school, staying on track to graduate, and planning for a career
  • Keep your availability up to date and show up ready for every booking

You're responsible for growing your own client base. Share your profile with families you know, in your email signature, and on social media.

Requirements

  • 3+ years helping students with college prep, admissions, financial aid, or career planning
  • Based in and authorized to work in the United States
  • A computer with a webcam, reliable internet, and a quiet place to meet
  • You explain complicated things clearly, without jargon
  • You're dependable: you show up on time and follow through
  • You're comfortable running your own schedule and your own small business

Nice to have

  • Experience as a school counselor, financial aid professional, admissions officer, or career coach
  • Fluency in Spanish or another language families speak at home
  • You've been through it yourself, as a first-generation student or as a parent who's paid for college

Pay and fees

You set your price per appointment, anywhere from $100 to $150. Families pay for appointments through College Price Check when they book. We collect payment on your behalf and pay it out to you twice a month, around the 15th and the end of the month, for the appointments you've held.

Platform fee
$99/month
Monthly subscription, starting once you're live. Billed whether or not you have bookings that month. Cancel anytime, no commitment.
Transaction fee
10% per appointment
Deducted before your payout.
Bank fees
2.9% + 30¢ per appointment
Card processing, deducted before your payout.

Example: on a $100 appointment, the transaction fee is $10.00 and bank fees are $3.20, so $86.80 is paid out to you.

As an independent advisor you pay your own taxes; nothing is withheld from your payouts.

Our standards

Families trust us to send them to good advisors. Every advisor agrees to these standards.

  • Proven experience: we verify your 3+ years of experience before your profile goes live
  • An accurate profile: no credentials, affiliations, or results you don't have
  • No guarantees: never promise specific admissions, financial aid, scholarship, loan, or job outcomes
  • No kickbacks: never accept referral fees or commissions from colleges, lenders, or agents
  • Stay within your expertise: don't write or submit applications for families, and don't give legal, tax, or investment advice unless you're licensed to
  • Protect family information: never ask for an FSA ID, passwords, or a full Social Security number, and keep everything families share confidential
  • Work with minors responsibly: anyone under 18 has a parent or guardian nearby during appointments, and there's no contact with a minor outside a scheduled appointment without a parent or guardian's consent
  • Accountability: families can review their appointments, and we remove advisors who don't meet these standards

Application process

  1. Apply (about 15 minutes). Start by creating a College Price Check advisor profile, exactly as families will see it: photos, the topics you cover, your background, and your price. It stays private until you're live. Applying is free.
  2. Review. We verify your experience and review your profile. You'll get a link to your advisor portal right away, so you can track your application at any time.
  3. Intro call. A short call where we get to know you and answer your questions.
  4. Setup. Set up your calendar and availability, and we'll make sure booking and payment work end to end.
  5. Go live. Your profile is published in the advisor directory, and families can start booking with you.
